Air Supply
When Air Supply Is Required
Compressed air is required on HWAMDA machines for:
- Pneumatic core pulling (if the mold uses air cylinders)
- Air blow-off (blow 1, blow 2 — part ejection assist)
- Air-operated safety devices (if equipped)
- Pneumatic nozzle shut-off (if equipped)
Not all machines require compressed air. Check your machine specification and mold requirements before installing an air supply. Hydraulic core pulling does not need compressed air.
Air Supply Specifications
| Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Supply pressure | 5–7 bar (regulated) |
| Air quality | Filtered (5 μm), dry (pressure dew point ≤ 3°C at 7 bar), oil-free |
| Flow rate | ≥ 200 L/min (continuous), ≥ 500 L/min (peak) |
| Connection size | 1/2” BSP or 1/2” NPT |
| Tube / hose | 10 mm outer diameter PU or nylon tubing (typical) |
Connection Procedure
- Install a shut-off valve and pressure regulator at the machine air inlet.
- Connect the main air supply to the machine air inlet port (labeled “AIR IN”).
- Set the regulator to 5–7 bar.
- Open the air supply and check for leaks at all connection points.
- Verify that the machine HMI shows correct air pressure (if monitored).
- Test each pneumatic function (blow, core, etc.) at low pressure first.
Air Dryer Recommendation
If the factory compressed air system does not include a dryer, install a refrigerant air dryer at the machine or at the branch supply:
- Required in humid climates (> 60% RH average)
- Prevents water condensation in pneumatic valves and cylinders
- Extends the life of pneumatic components
- Typical specification: 5°C pressure dew point
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Low air pressure at machine | Regulator set too low, undersized pipe | Check regulator setting. Check pipe sizing for flow. |
| Water in air blow-off | No air dryer, or dryer malfunction | Install or service air dryer. Drain receiver tank. |
| Pneumatic cylinder slow or weak | Low pressure, restricted flow | Check for kinked tubing, clogged fittings. |
| Air leak hissing sound | Loose fitting or damaged tubing | Apply soapy water to locate leak. Tighten or replace. |
