Overview & Safety

Maintenance Philosophy

HWAMDA injection molding machines are precision industrial equipment that require systematic preventive maintenance. Adhering to the maintenance schedules in this manual will:

  • Maximize machine service life (target: 10+ years)
  • Reduce unplanned downtime
  • Maintain molding precision and repeatability
  • Preserve resale value
  • Maintain warranty and insurance compliance

Safety Rules for Maintenance

⚠️

Maintenance work must only be performed by trained personnel who have read and understood this manual. Always follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures before any maintenance task.

General Safety

  1. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): Before any maintenance, turn off the main power disconnect, lock it with a personal padlock, and attach a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag. Verify zero energy state.
  2. Wait for cool-down: Allow the barrel, hydraulic oil, and motor surfaces to cool below 40°C before touching.
  3. Hydraulic pressure: Depressurize the hydraulic system completely. Bleed any accumulated pressure in accumulators before servicing.
  4. Spring-loaded accumulators: Always discharge nitrogen pre-charge before disassembling accumulator-related components.
  5. Electrical safety: Only qualified electricians may open electrical cabinets. Wait 5 minutes after power-off for DC bus capacitors to discharge.
  6. Hot surfaces: Barrel heater bands, nozzle, and hydraulic components can cause severe burns.
  7. Lifting safety: Use rated lifting equipment. Never stand under a suspended load.
  8. Chemical safety: Hydraulic oil, grease, and cleaning solvents may be hazardous. Refer to SDS sheets.
  9. Housekeeping: Keep the machine area clean and free of oil spills, tripping hazards, and clutter.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Record Keeping

Maintain a machine logbook containing:

  • Daily shift inspection records
  • Completed maintenance tasks with date and technician name
  • Oil and filter change records (hours at change, oil brand/grade)
  • Component replacements (with part numbers)
  • Unusual observations (noises, leaks, temperature changes)
  • Calibration records
  • Breakdown history and root cause analysis

Digital maintenance records are recommended. HWAMDA offers the optional Hwamda Connect IoT module for automatic runtime tracking and maintenance reminders.

Spare Parts Philosophy

Keep the following critical spares on site:

  • Hydraulic filter elements (suction, return, off-line)
  • Seal kits for main cylinders (injection, clamp, ejector)
  • Heater bands (common sizes for your model)
  • Fuses and miniature circuit breakers
  • Proximity sensors (common types)
  • Servo drive cooling fan
  • Grease and lubrication fittings
