Leveling & Anchoring

Leveling Procedure

Proper leveling ensures even load distribution on tie bars, smooth platen movement, and accurate mold alignment.

Tools Required

  • Precision machinist’s level (0.02 mm/m sensitivity)
  • Feeler gauges
  • Shims (various thicknesses, stainless steel)
  • Torque wrench (calibrated)

Procedure

  1. Position the machine: Place the machine at the final installation location on the prepared floor.

  2. Rough leveling:

    • Place the precision level on the moving platen surface (clean surface first).
    • Level in both longitudinal (clamp direction) and transverse directions.
    • Adjust leveling feet or shims as needed.
    • Target: ≤ 0.10 mm/m in both directions.
  3. Fine leveling:

    • Move the level to the fixed platen surface.
    • Adjust until both platens are within 0.05 mm/m.
    • Check level on the injection unit base plate.
    • Target: entire machine within 0.10 mm/m.
  4. Check under load:

    • Apply 50% of rated clamp force.
    • Re-check platen level.
    • Adjust if necessary.
    • Release clamp force and re-check.

Temperature changes can affect leveling. Perform final leveling when the machine and floor are at normal operating temperature (run the machine for 2 hours, then re-check). Do not level a cold machine.

Anchoring

When to Anchor

Machine SizeAnchoring Required
≤ 1000 kNNot required (leveling feet only, with lock nuts)
1000–3000 kNRecommended (anchor bolts + leveling pads)
> 3000 kNRequired (anchor bolts + epoxy grout)

Anchor Bolt Installation

  1. Mark bolt positions on the floor using the machine base plate drilling template.
  2. Drill holes to the specified depth (typically 150–300 mm).
  3. Clean holes thoroughly (vacuum + brush).
  4. Inject chemical anchor epoxy.
  5. Insert anchor bolts before epoxy sets.
  6. Remove the machine, allow epoxy to cure (per manufacturer instructions).
  7. Reposition the machine and tighten nuts to specified torque.

Grouting (For Large Machines)

  1. Build a form around the machine base plate.
  2. Mix non-shrink epoxy grout according to manufacturer specifications.
  3. Pour grout through pour holes to completely fill under the base plate.
  4. Allow to cure for minimum 24 hours before applying load.
  5. After curing, tighten anchor bolts to final torque.

Tightening Torque

Bolt SizeTorque (Steel grade 8.8)
M16180–200 N·m
M20350–400 N·m
M24600–700 N·m
M301200–1400 N·m

Final Check

After leveling and anchoring:

  1. Re-check platen level — it should be within 0.10 mm/m.
  2. Check all leveling foot lock nuts are tightened.
  3. Verify machine frame is not twisted (check diagonal measurements).
  4. Record final level measurements in the installation log.
